How You can be Involved

How You can add a Square

We are inviting people in Traralgon East, organisations that operate in Traralgon and people in the wider community to produce squares that can be added to a community quilt celebrating living in Traralgon East and Traralgon in general.

Calico squares are available from the Traralgon Neighbourhood Learning House at 61 Breed Street, or from tutors at the Traralgon East Hall any time on Thursdays.

You are invited to decorate it in any manner that you wish, and return it to be incorporated in the quilt. Or you can cut your own. (If you do cut your own, it is very, very important that they be twelve inch square before you start work on them. No smaller, no larger. Please. This is to allow us sufficient margin to join them.)

The Group compiling the quilt will be meeting on Thursdays during term time at the Traralgon East Hall, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. During those times we will be available to work through a number of techniques for making squares, and everyone is welcome to call in at any time and join in, at no cost.

Finished squares can be returned to the Traralgon East Hall during any Thursday session, from 10am to 4.30pm. if you are unable to call in, you can return them to the Traralgon Neighbourhood Learning House, 61 Breed St, or mail them to that address. We need to have them back by the end of Term 3 at the latest, but would prefer them earlier if possible.

During Term 3 we will be putting the quilt/s together at the Traralgon east hall between 3.30pm and 4.30pm - everyone is welcome to call in to check out progress, and see other squares. They will also be posted here on this website.

Here are a few suggestions about way You can decorate Your square

What to send with the square

We would warmly encourage people to provide us with details of where the quilt has come from, who made it, any explanation about symbols on the square and what it means to you, or what you were thinking when you made it. This needs to be on one side of an A4-sized sheet of paper only. We will then make them into books to go with the quilt for public display. These can include photographs of you at work on your square if you wish. Organisations might like to give some details of services they provide to the people of Traralgon East, and people in Traralgon East can write their stories about living there, and things that are important to them.
